The placement of Winnipeg’s rail yards may seem very odd for a modern city of its size, however in the bustling day or rail service having two railyards in the downtown of your city made sense. Goods a people could be delivered directly to the heart of a city that is at the centre of the continent.
Today with passenger service being something of a joke in Canada (Outside the Toronto, Montréal, Québec corridor) and goods moving with a mix of road and rail, the remaining downtown yard sometimes feels out of place. If you walk over the large spanning bridges that allow traffic to love over Canadian Pacific Railway yard, you quickly see how the shunting of cars and open horizon make for a great photographic opportunity.
